The United States beef sector is a complex system and a focus area for a broad range of stakeholders beyond the beef value chain, including financial institutions, consumers, Big Greens, animal welfare organizations, and public sector entities, among others. The focus on beef is driven largely by beef being both ubiquitous in the United States and also highly controversial due its numerous social and environmental impacts. This project, in collaboration with Environmental Defense Fund, conducted a landscape analysis of beef producers across all stages of the beef value chain with regards to their needs and priorities around advancing environmental and climate justice in the sector. We examined issues around labor, environmental pollutants, gender equity in farm ownership, racial equity in farm ownership, immigration, financing, and emerging technologies.
