The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is considering the adoption of what it terms the “Mid Term Measures” to mitigate greenhouse gas impacts of the shipping sector. The MTM are akin to carbon cap-and-trade type programs. An associated revenue fund from the MTM, on the order of $10B a year, will create a proposed reinvestment stream towards R&D, adaptation, and mitigation advancements in the shipping sector. This project aims to understand how participatory justice and participatory design practices can support the IMO’s actions on the MTM and associated revenue fund. It is in collaboration with Environmental Defense Fund.
