This gathering, in April 2022, convened multidisciplinary scholars, activists, and policymakers to learn about the origins of the atomic bomb in the Tri Cities area of Washington. Participants considered the origins of the bomb with respect to epistemic and institutional racism–and environmental and climate justice–considering in particular the legacies and past + ongoing impacts to African Americans, the Yakama Nation, and Japanese atomic bomb survivors (hibakusha). In addition to being a participant, I was an invited speaker at this gathering, which was sponsored by Bombshelltoe and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security.
